“Prepare Now”

Florida Governor Rick Scott has had a busy few days, repeatedly warning the residents of his state to prepare for Hurricane Irma:

  • “Do not sit and wait for this storm to come.”
  • “The best way to prevent the loss of what matters most is to prepare now and take this storm seriously.”
  • “We cannot save you when the storm starts, so if you are in an evacuation zone and you need help, you need to tell us now.”

I don’t know Governor Scott, but I’m confident that if we could ask him why he has repeatedly warned Floridians in such strong terms, he would say that his warnings come from a place of deep concern. He has warned because he does not want anyone to perish.

In 1 Thessalonians 1:9-10, the apostle Paul praises those people who had “turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.” Think about that. The wrath of a holy and just God is coming against sin. We’ve been warned because we are loved. God’s own Son died that we might be delivered. He was raised that we might find refuge.

The Lord “is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” (2 Pet 3:9). Have you taken the time to prepare? If we can help, all you have to do is ask.
