August is a Great Time to Start Regularly Reading Your Bible

On January 1, 2018 we kicked off a new Bible reading plan. Many of you have been following along, every step of the way—I know because you mention it here and there, and that’s always an encouragement to me.

If you’ve been with us on the journey, you’ve read the New Testament three times. You’ve read the book of Psalms three times. You’ve read the book of Proverbs almost six times. This week, you’ll read the last book of the Old Testament. What a rewarding journey!

If you haven’t been regularly reading the Bible, August is a GREAT time to start! We’re scheduled to launch back into Genesis next week. Our plan follows a simple pattern, taking us on an expedition through all sections of God’s written revelation to mankind:

  • Each Sunday and Wednesday we read a psalm (to lift our hearts in worship and provide mid-week refreshment)
  • Most weekdays we read a chapter from the New Testament (to fix our eyes on Jesus, reminding ourselves of what it means to be his disciples) and a chapter from the Old Testament (to expand our knowledge of God’s great plan to save mankind)
  • Each Saturday we read a chapter from Proverbs (to grow in wisdom)

“Man shall not live by bread alone” (Matt 4:4). Those were our Lord’s words. Let’s take them seriously and interact with his word every day. August is a great time to start!
