Five Precious Words from Romans 5

I’m sure you have a busy day ahead of you, but before we all get too far ahead of ourselves and easily lose sight of what really matters, could I draw your attention to five precious words from the first two verses of Romans 5? Words that can powerfully prepare your God-given heart for the day?

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Justified. Access. Stand. Rejoice. Hope. Five words that summarize who we are as disciples of Jesus. Five words worth remembering and reflecting on throughout the day.

Justified. Set right. Made fit. Declared righteous. Since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Access. What was once closed to us—and rightly so because of our sins—has been opened for us. Through Jesus, we have obtained access by faith into the amazing grace of God.

Stand. In this grace we stand. No longer do we walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of scoffers. Here, in the grace of Jesus, we stand.

Rejoice. Once blind, now we see. Hearts that were lost and dead have been found and made alive. With renewed minds set on things above our joy is rooted in the resurrected Christ.

Hope. We rejoice in hope of the glory of God. That’s our reason. Our aim. Our hope. The glory of God.

And just like that, a powerful tone has been set. A gospel note with which you can harmonize your heart. A divine reference point to guide you home, more reliable than the North Star.

Justified. Access. Stand. Rejoice. Hope. Five precious, God-provided words to prepare your heart for the day.
