Daily Bible Reading Reflections

“Is Anything Too Hard for the LORD?”

Today’s Bible reading is Genesis 18 and Hebrews 4.

In Genesis 18, Abraham and Sarah have three visitors.

They said to [Abraham], “Where is Sarah your wife?” And he said, “She is in the tent.” The LORD said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife shall have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the tent door behind him. Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in years. The way of women had ceased to be with Sarah. So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, “After I am worn out, and my lord is old, shall I have pleasure?” The LORD said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?’ Is anything too hard for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.” (Gen 18:9-14)

“Is anything too hard for the LORD?”

  • He said “Let there be light,” and there was light
  • He formed man from dust and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life
  • He took a rib from the man’s side and made it into a woman
  • He opened the windows of the heavens and flooded the earth
  • He set his bow in the clouds as a sign of his covenant with mankind
  • He confused the language of mankind and dispersed them over the face of the earth

“Is anything too hard for the LORD?” Just 18 chapters into the Bible, we’ve already learned the answer to that question. Another 1,171 chapters follow to confirm the answer. Nothing is too hard for the Lord God Almighty.

This is the God who hears our prayers today, the God who has promised to never leave us or forsake us.

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Heb 4:16)
