My Light, My Salvation, My Stronghold

In Psalm 27:1, David blessed generations of believers with these beautiful words:
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Think about the meaning and significance of those “the LORD is” descriptors as we head into a new God-given week.
The LORD is my light. He has revealed himself as my Creator, the Source of life, light, joy, peace, and hope. He has described what was before me, the purpose of my existence, the meaning of my life, and what lies beyond my brief time on this earth. The LORD is my light.
The LORD is my salvation. Like every other image-bearer before me, I have sinned and fallen short of the glory for which I was created, but he has acted to reconcile the world to himself. He loved first. Full of mercy and grace, he reached out first. The LORD is my salvation.
The LORD is my stronghold. Though he has powerfully revealed himself as the world’s true and rightful King, graciously intervening for his creation as its one and only Savior, life under the sun is still hard. Evil is real. Evildoers are active. Adversaries, foes, and false witnesses continue to do their worst, for a little while. But the LORD is my light, my salvation, and my stronghold. Whom shall I fear? Of whom shall I be afraid?
And so we continue to resolve and pray with David…
Though an army encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
though war arise against me,
yet I will be confident. (27:3)
The LORD is my light, my salvation, my stronghold.
Hear, O LORD, when I cry aloud;
be gracious to me and answer me!
You have said, “Seek my face.”
My heart says to you,
“Your face, LORD, do I seek.” (27:7-8)
The LORD is the revealer, my restorer, my refuge.
Teach me your way, O LORD,
and lead me on a level path. (27:11)
The LORD is my light, my salvation, my stronghold.
I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD
in the land of the living! (27:13)
The LORD is our light, our salvation, our stronghold, and so we continue to encourage each other…
“Wait for the LORD;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the LORD!” (27:14)
He is our light, our salvation, our stronghold, and worthy of everything we have to give today. So let’s be blessed by and follow the ancient lead of David…
I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy;
I will sing and make melody to the LORD. (27:6)
Happy Lord’s day.
