Our Opportunity to Join the Chorus

You woke this morning to a worldwide chorus that most won’t hear today. Psalm 148 opens our eyes to the reality of this chorus, drawing our attention to the praise echoing from every corner of creation. Even more, this ancient Hebrew poem continues to extend an invitation to each one of us: make today a day of praise. Tune your heart and blend your voice with the members of this magnificent chorus who have been singing praises for millennia.

The sun, moon, and shining stars in the highest heavens are a powerful part of this chorus. They praise their Maker as they rise and set, wax and wane, providing light from millions of miles away.

From the tiniest fish in the smallest creeks to the greatest sea monsters in the depths of the ocean, the Creator is being praised today by creatures as they swim. Beasts and livestock, creeping things and flying birds are fulling their unique God-given roles in this chorus.

Let them praise the name of the LORD!
For he commanded and they were created. (148:5)

Fire, hail, snow, mist, and stormy winds play a part. Mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars shouldn’t be overlooked.

Praise the LORD!
Praise the LORD from the heavens;
praise him in the heights!
Praise him, all his angels;
praise him, all his hosts! (148:1-2)

And before the psalm concludes, every human being is encouraged to join in. From the greatest kings of the earth to princes, young men and maidens, old men and little children…

Let them praise the name of the LORD,
for his name alone is exalted;
his majesty is above earth and heaven. (148:13)

You woke this morning to a worldwide chorus that most won’t hear today, but we were created–each one of us–to joyfully fill an undeserved role. Allow Psalm 148 to open your eyes and ears. You are surrounded by majesty. Let’s enthusiastically join creation in the praise of our mighty King today.
