The Invitations of Psalm 66

Psalm 66 is full of invitations that can prime our hearts for worship.

Shout for joy to God, all the earth;
sing the glory of his name;
give to him glorious praise! (66:1)

Creation is glorifying the Creator all around us this morning. Psalm 66 invites us to join the chorus of praise.

Come and see what God has done:
he is awesome in his deeds
 toward the children of man. (66:5)

What an invitation! As we sing, pray, observe, and read together from his word, isn’t that we’re saying to each other? “Come and see what God has done. He is awesome!”

Bless our God, O peoples;
let the sound of his praise be heard. (66:8)

Let’s honor him as God today, giving thanks to him with all of our hearts, blessing the fount of our blessings.

Come and hear, all you who fear God,
and I will tell what he has done for my soul. (66:16)

Let’s remember that doing what God has told us to do on the first day of the week should inspire us, fueling and stirring us up to love and good works. Let’s leave our assemblies armed with invitations of our own. “Come and see. Come and hear. Let me tell you what God has done for my soul.”

Shout for joy to God. Sing the glory of his name. Give to him glorious praise. Come and see what God has done. Bless our God, O peoples. Come, hear, and I will tell you what he has done for my soul. The invitations of Psalm 66.

May the sound of his praise be heard in our gatherings throughout the day, throughout our communities, and throughout the world this week.
