1 Timothy 3: The Household of God

Today’s Bible reading is 1 Timothy 3. In verses 14 and 15, Paul writes:

I am writing these things to you, hoping to come to you before long; but in case I am delayed, I write so that you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.

Those are words worth meditating on today.

As Christians, we are members of a household–the household of a gracious God. Our heavenly Father expects us to “conduct” or “behave” ourselves as obedient sons and daughters.

We are members of the church–the church of the living God. Our heavenly King has called us out of darkness and brought us into the light of his glorious will. He expects us to know, walk in, and share “the truth” that has set us free.

How remarkable that Paul’s first letter to Timothy has been preserved for our learning! Because the Holy Spirit led this apostle of Christ Jesus to write this letter, we can know how our Lord would have us to live today.
