Daily Bible Reading Reflections

A Perspective-Shaping Mental Exercise for the Day

Today’s Bible reading is Psalm 24.

The earth is the LORD’s and all that fills is,
the world and those who dwell therein.

That’s how Psalm 24 begins. This planet? It belongs to God. Everything that fills this world–from the depths of the Mariana Trench 36,070 feet below sea level to the heights of Mount Everest 29,029 feet above sea level? God’s. Every single person who dwells in every single corner of the globe? God’s.

Are you up for a perspective-shaping mental exercise today? Take Psalm 24:1 seriously. Use it as a lens through which to see the world and all that fills it.

That bird you heard chirping this morning? It’s God’s.

That tree blossoming with the beautiful colors of Spring? God’s.

That flower emerging from the ground? God’s.

That air you’re breathing right now. God’s.

Those lungs you’re using to breathe that air? God’s.

That person–every person, in fact–with whom you interact today? God’s. Each one, uniquely created in his image.

What difference could it make in your day if you used Psalm 24:1 as a corrective lens to see as your Father in heaven sees?

The earth is the LORD’s and all that fills is,
the world and those who dwell therein.
