An Invitation to Cast as You Worship

Today’s Bible reading is Psalm 55.

Psalm 55 is full of “burdens.”

Restlessness. A gathering enemy. Oppression from the wicked. Grudges. Anguish. Fear. Violence. Strife. Fraud. Betrayal.

You get the idea. These are heavy burdens.

But before Psalm 55 reaches its conclusion, an invitation is extended–a relevant invitation as we prepare our hearts for worship on this first day of the week.

Cast your burden on the LORD,
and he will sustain you… (Psa 55:22)

Cast your burden on the LORD.

The burden of past sin.

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (Rom 8:1)

The burden of present trials.

If God is for us, who can be against us? Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (Rom 8:31, 35, 37)

The burden of anxieties over the future.

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. (Rom 8:18)

Cast your burden on the LORD. What an invitation as we prepare our hearts for worship!

I call to God…
…and he hears my voice. (Psa 55:16-17)

Who like me Thy praise should sing, O Almighty King?
