Inseparable
Today’s Bible reading is 1 Chronicles 6 and Romans 8.
Death cannot separate you from the love of God.
Life cannot separate you from the love of God.
Angels cannot separate you from the love of God.
Rulers cannot separate you from the love of God.
Things present cannot separate you from the love of God.
Things to come cannot separate you from the love of God.
Powers cannot separate you from the love of God.
Not height, not depth, not anything else in all creation is able to separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. That’s the amazing conclusion of Romans 8.
Our heavenly Father will allow just one thing to separate us from him: the choice to sin.
Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save,
or his ear dull, that it cannot hear;
but your iniquities have made a separation
between you and your God,
and your sins have hidden his face from you
so that he does not hear. (Isa 59:1-2)
Death cannot hide his face. No ruler or angel can keep him from hearing. The chasm-creator between me and God is my choice to sin. It’s no wonder, then, that the Spirit shows me where to “set my mind” in Romans 8.
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. (Rom 8:5-6)
With minds set on the Spirit we’ve been invited to boldly ask, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” Living life according to the Spirit we can confidently proclaim, “In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. No thing, no one can separate us from his love. What incredible news!
