Daily Bible Reading Reflections

Psalm 19: My Rock and My Redeemer

Today’s Bible reading is Psalm 19. With these words, David draws our attention to four things that can focus and inspire your day:

  • God’s amazing creation (19:1-6)
  • God’s perfect will for mankind (19:7-11)
  • Humanity’s sin problem (19:12-13)
  • God’s grace that enables us to be acceptable in his sight (19:14)

“The heavens declare the glory of God.” Take the time today to look up, to look around, and marvel at the beautiful work of our amazing Creator.

“The law of the LORD is perfect.” His testimony is sure. His precepts are right. His commandments are pure. His rules are true. In respecting and keeping his will, “there is great reward.” God has revealed what he has revealed to us for our good.

But David is also moved to reflect on his “errors,” “hidden faults,” and “presumptuous sins.” Like all who have come before us with the exception of God’s own Son, we have failed to honor our Creator as God. All have sinned and fallen short of his glory.

And yet, my perfectly holy Creator is willing to be “my redeemer” and “my rock.” Praise God!

If you’re looking for a breath of fresh air for your prayers today, consider Psalm 19:14. “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.”
