Reflexively Looking to My Father

It happens over and over again as you watch from the stands during Fall sports season, especially with the littlest of athletes. After nearly every play, boys and girls reflexively look up from the court or the field to lock eyes with a parent. As they look, they’re wondering, “Did you see that? Was that okay? What are you thinking? How am I doing?”

What impact would it make on my life if I started doing that? If throughout the day, in all circumstances and scenarios, I reflexively looked with child-like faith to my heavenly Father?

  • “What does my Father think about what just happened?”
  • “How does he feel about the way I handled that situation?”
  • “What would he encourage me to see in this difficulty?”
  • “Did I just step out-of-bounds? If so, what should I do now?”
  • “What should I learn from this experience?”
  • “How am I being trained to distinguish good from evil?”
  • “Is my Father proud of me?”
  • “What can I do to bring even more joy to his heart?”

Regardless of what is going on in your life today, your heavenly Father desires a relationship with you. He is present. He is perfect. He wants the best for you.

I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. (Psa 121:1-2)

May we continue to train our hearts to reflexively look towards him.
