Daily Bible Reading Reflections

1 Peter 4: Self-Controlled and Sober-Minded

Today’s Bible reading is 1 Peter 4. While I would encourage you to read the entire chapter, notice especially the straight-forward call of verse 7.

The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.

These are great thoughts to fix at the forefront of our minds from the start of this weekend.

We live in a world that is out of control; as Christians, we are to be self-controlled.

We are surrounded by people whose minds are set on themselves and the things of this world; as disciples of Jesus, we are to be sober-minded.

“The end of all things is at hand,” Peter reminds us. Our Lord could return at any moment. Self-control and sober-mindedness are key elements of our walk with him. Let’s “entrust” our souls “to a faithful Creator while doing good” (1 Pet 4:19) this weekend.
