Daily Bible Reading Reflections

“I Have Hoped in Your Word”

Psalm 119 is a grand psalm all about the amazing word of God. Take a moment to reflect on what is communicated in verses 73-80 as a means of preparing your heart for worship today.

God. His hands have made and fashioned us. He has spoken, and his rules are righteous. He has made great and precious promises that give his servants hope. He has communicated good news of mercy available to all, that we may live.

How our hearts ought to be oriented towards God. “I have hoped in your word. Your law is my delight. I will meditate on your precepts.”

“Affliction” is a very real part of life. Sometimes it comes in the form of people who wrong us with falsehood. Sometimes it’s the result of our own foolish choices. Sometimes we feel it as our toes are rightly stomped on by God’s living and active word. But whatever the injustice we endure from others, whatever the hardship, however we may be disciplined, God is always faithful.

Which leads the psalmist to pray. “Give me understanding that I may learn your commandments. Let your steadfast love comfort me. Let your mercy come to me. Let those who fear you turn to me, that they may know your testimonies. May my heart be blameless in your statutes, that I may not be put to shame.”

What a powerful framework for worship! God is our Creator. He has spoken for our good. There is hope to be found in his word. He is always faithful and steadfast in his love. He wants to turn us into messengers of his amazing grace. He is worthy of our worship today! So let’s give him everything we have to give.
