Make a Joyful Noise to the LORD

Psalm 98 draws our attention to several “marvelous” things our Creator has done.
His right hand and his holy arm
have worked salvation for him.
The LORD has made known his salvation;
he has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations.
He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness
to the house of Israel.
All the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation of our God. (98:1-3)
So what about us? It’s one thing to acknowledge our Creator’s existence. It’s certainly worthwhile to study the great things he has done. But beyond acknowledgement and intellectual awareness, notice what Psalm 98 encourages us to do.
Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth;
break forth into joyous song and sing praises! (98:4)
Why? Because that’s what his creation was created to do.
Let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
the world and those who dwell in it!
Let the rivers clap their hands;
let the hills sing for joy together
before the LORD,
for he comes
to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness,
and the peoples with equity. (98:7-9)
Think about it. Open your eyes and ears. The sea is roaring, and all that fills it is praising the Maker. The rivers are clapping. The hills and trees embedded in them are singing for joy together. The LORD, our righteous judge, is coming. He has done marvelous things for our good. He has made known his salvation. He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness. He has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations. The good news of his salvation has sounded throughout the world. And he’s calling on his children to make a joyful noise!
What an incredible opportunity to join with creation in singing the praises of our Creator! What a blessing to break forth into joyous song and sing praises!
Happy Lord’s day.
Let’s open our eyes and ears, lift up our hearts, and bring him our best.
